Redwing is Sam Wilson's pet falcon. When Red Skull used the Cosmic Cube to turn Sam into a sleeper agent to use against Captain America, he also gave him a psychic link with Redwing, so when Sam became Falcon, Redwing accompanied him and Cap in their adventures.
